Cumbria Police said the woman had come forward and paid for the toy

A woman who stole a teddy from a gift shop has written an apology to its owners and paid for the toy, police said.

Cumbria Police said the 46-year-old had stolen a £40 Jellycat soft toy from Ashbridge & Brown, on Fisher Street, Carlisle, on 30 March.

After the force issued an appeal to trace her, she contacted police to identify herself.

A spokesman for the force said: "The outcome, which is a community resolution, has been agreed with the victim in this case."
