A care home wants to increase the number of rooms it has to cope with the growing number of older people.

Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) Jersey said its two sites - Stuart Court in St Lawrence and Maison La Cordiere in St Helier - can often be up to 96% full and is concerned it will run out of space.

It said it wanted to meet demand with plans to increase the number of rooms at Stuart Court from 28 to 52 while also refurbishing the existing building and modernising facilities.

MHA Jersey chairwoman Anne Pryke said the project represented a "major investment" into residential care in Jersey.

"It will enable us to meet increasing demand, enhance the quality of accommodation and facilities available to residents, and continue providing high-quality care at fees that remain accessible to local families," Pryke added.

MHA Jersey said the increase at Stuart Court would take its total number of rooms when combined with Maison La Cordiere from 61 to 85.

If approved, the scheme would be delivered in phases so residents can stay in their home throughout the construction period, MHA Jersey said.
