The plans would see an eight-classroom school built, with scope for expansion as the town grows

Residents in Tornagrain, near Inverness, have been asked for their views on plans for a new primary school, early learning and childcare facility in the town.

The new school would have capacity for up to 255 primary pupils and 71 nursery children.

It would form part of a point of delivery (pod) site, which brings together education, council services and partner organisations within an accessible community hub.

Highland Council said it plans to establish a stakeholder group later in the summer, with construction scheduled to begin in May 2027 subject to planning permission.

Phase one of the proposal is for an eight-classroom school, with capacity for a further eight classrooms to be added as the new town's population grows.

The Tornagrain development forms part of Highland Council's wider Highland Investment Plan - a £2.1b, 20-year capital investment programme to improve schools, roads and local infrastructure.

The project is one of 10 school developments currently being progressed by the local authority.

It follows the recent opening of Tain Campus, also a community pod, which comprises Tain Royal Academy, Tain Primary School and St Duthus School on a shared site.
