Police said its thoughts were with the family of Joan Hardy

Police investigating a woman's death in a village in Derbyshire have named the 72-year-old victim.

Officers were called to a property in The Crest, Linton, just after 14:30 BST on Sunday, where Joan Hardy was found with stab wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, with a 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder.

Releasing her name on Tuesday, the force said her family had been made aware and were being supported by specialist officers.

A statement added: "Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

The arrested man remains in police custody.

Residents should expect an increased police presence in the coming days, the force said

The Crest was closed as police investigated the death and has since reopened, but a scene remains at the house which the force expects to be in place for "a number of days".

Officers have also been making house-to-house calls and reviewing CCTV, and a witness appeal has been made.

"We are keen to hear from any residents or neighbours who saw anyone coming or going from the property on Saturday or Sunday," police added.
