Four flee house blaze as crews tackle fires

Four people were forced to flee a property in the early hours after a house fire in Derby.

Crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were sent to Grange Avenue in Normanton at about 05:05 BST on Monday.

A fire service spokesman said the fire "started in a bedroom [and] spread to the roof space", adding crews "are currently removing roof tiles and checking for hotspots".

Derbyshire Police said the occupants managed to get out of the property safely and nobody was injured, adding all roads have reopened and there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Police said emergency services were also called out to Blakelow Farm in Sutton Lane, Hilton, Derbyshire, at about 02:00 following reports of "a fire to a barn and a recovery truck on the property".

No injuries were reported, and the road was closed "for a few hours" while emergency services dealt with the incident, but a force spokesman said an investigation was ongoing and the fire "is believed to have been started deliberately".
