Polling stations have opened in Plymouth and Exeter for local elections.

A third of the seats on both Plymouth and Exeter's city councils are being contested.

Polling stations will be open until 22:00 BST on Thursday, with the results due to be announced on Friday.

In both cities, a third of seats are contested each year for three years, followed by a fourth year when there are no elections.

Nineteen of the 57 seats on Plymouth City Council in 19 wards are being contested this year - that is all wards except Plympton Erle.

In Exeter, all 13 of the council's wards have at least one seat being contested. There are 39 seats in total, with elections held for 14 seats.

Exeter Council has 55 polling stations open on Thursday, with a polling station finder on its website. You can also find Plymouth's polling stations on its website.

Voters will need photo ID, with a passport, driving licence, blue badge or travel card accepted.
