Green Party campaigning for first council seats
Green PartyGreen Party candidates say, if elected, they will "work hard to push for the priorities of local people".
Voters will be heading to polling stations on 7 May to elect 15 councillors on North East Lincolnshire Council, one in each of the authority's wards.
There are currently no Greens on the council, but Croft Baker Ward candidate Leon Brown said the party was "well connected with the area's priorities because we are all residents of the local area".
"We use the same bus services and the same roads to get to our jobs in the same hospital, schools, factories and supermarkets as all the other residents of North East Lincolnshire," he said.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Brown said priorities would be developing renewable energy infrastructure, such as more charging points for electric vehicles, the electrification of buses and safe spaces to park bicycles.
Other policies include increasing social housing and stopping the sale of public assets to private companies.
The party would be "against any raising of council tax and will push for more help for people in financial difficulties", said Brown.
He added: "We want to help people with plans to start businesses in our area, helping to fill up the empty units in Freshney Place [in Grimsby] and on our decaying high streets."
"Even though we're not yet on the council, we will work hard to push for the priorities of local people.
"We deserve better from our local council than what successive Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat councils have given us for generations, they have run the council since its inception, and we have only seen this area's decline during that time.
"We have seen young people leaving the area to look for jobs in other regions, our social services underfunded and our green spaces left to decay.
"We will work with any councillors that are trying to reverse this trend. We need a council that will tackle these issues and not just avoid them."
