Crews tackle 'sizeable fire' in city field
BBCFire crews are fighting a blaze in a field in the city of Oxford.
Firefighters are tackling the fire near the railway line on Burgess Field, near Port Meadow, telling the BBC at the scene on Friday evening that it was a "sizeable fire".
Twelve Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service fire engines and six police cars were seen on Port Meadow, which is a large open space in Oxford, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, as well as being home to cattle and horses. Witnesses described smelling smoke at the scene.
The BBC has approached the fire service headquarters for comment.
