Views sought on combined police and fire station
YNYCAPeople are being asked for their views over plans to create a combined police and fire station in Malton.
The town currently has separate fire and police stations but they are no longer fit for purpose and fail to meet the needs of the emergency services and local community, according to York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The consultation on plans to carry out survey work with a view to building a new joint station was aimed at residents, businesses, community groups and emergency services staff, the authority said.
Jo Coles, deputy mayor for police, fire and crime, said: "Listening to residents and local businesses is key to being able to deliver effective local services."
"We welcome responses on this from everyone who lives or works in York and North Yorkshire," Coles added.
"It is my job to work with the emergency services to ensure our police officers and staff and firefighters have what they need to do their job effectively, and that includes working from buildings that are fit for purpose," she explained.
"That's not the case currently in Malton and is why David Skaith, the Mayor, and I are seeking the public's views on whether to move forward with survey work on a potential new joint police and fire station for the town."
The consultation is open now and is expected to run until 1 July.
