Aldi has confirmed the locations of 16 new stores it plans to open in the UK as part of expansion proposals.

The supermarket chain said on Tuesday that a £370m investment would go into the new sites, including two stores in the West Midlands in Balsall Common and Sutton Coldfield.

New shops will also be opened in Watford, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester and Sudbury in Suffolk.

The plans are part of long-term ambitions by the Germany-based retailer to expand to 1,500 sites across the UK.

Aldi, which currently has 1,080 UK stores, said in January that it hoped to open about 40 new stores in 2026 in line with the long-term growth strategy.

The announcement follows the opening of its latest store in Salford Quays last month.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said the company was committed to making "high-quality" affordable food accessible to everyone.

"Our £370m investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi's unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues," he added.
