Fresh police appeal on anniversary of fatal attack

Detectives investigating the death of a 91-year-old woman following a suspected robbery have appealed for information 12 months on from the incident.

Elizabeth Clark, known as Betty, was found seriously injured at her home in Peveril Close, in the Kiveton Park area of Rotherham on 11 September, and died in hospital nine weeks later.

South Yorkshire Police said officers believe she sustained her injuries during an attack on 10 September, when her bank card was stolen and later used to buy alcohol and scratch cards in a nearby shop.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with her death and released on bail, but no charges have been brought.

Appealing for fresh information Det Insp Adam Watkinson said: "It has been a year since Betty was attacked. A year in which her family have had to live every day with an unimaginable grief they did not deserve.

"All while knowing those responsible for this callous assault remain free to go about their lives.

"I know Betty is greatly missed by her family and our priority remains the same - to provide answers for her loved ones and ensure those involved in this incident are brought before the courts.

"We have made progress in our investigation, arresting three people, but we continue to appeal to our communities for any information which could assist us in securing justice for Betty."
