Arrests as woman dies after car hit telegraph pole

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 22-year-old woman was killed when the car she was in struck a telegraph pole.

Officers were called to reports of a black Volkswagen Passat crashing on Penny Hill Lane near Thurcroft in Rotherham just after 01:00 BST on Sunday.

The woman was declared dead at the scene. The people detained have since been released on bail while the investigation continued, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The force have appealed for any witnesses that may have seen the collision or the car before the crash.
