Police get more time to question murder suspect

Police investigating the death of a woman in Nottinghamshire have been granted additional time to question a man arrested on suspicion of her murder.

The victim, aged 52, was discovered by officers at an address in James Close, Ollerton, shortly before 20:00 BST on Sunday.

A 60-year-old man, who police say was known to the victim, was later arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Officers were granted an additional 36 hours by the courts on Tuesday to detain the suspect while further lines of inquiry were explored.

A cordon is still in place at the property.

Family members, who are now being supported by specially trained officers, raised the alarm when they could not reach the victim.

Police said ongoing work includes examining mobile phones and CCTV, forensics and further witness statements.

Det Insp Stu Barson said: "This was an utterly horrific and violent crime committed on a woman in her own home, and we will leave no stone unturned.

"The family remain at the heart of everything we do. As you can imagine, this news has been utterly devastating for them, and they have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

"We would like anyone with information, who has not already been in touch, to please contact us, especially if you live in the area of James Close in Ollerton."
