Pier owners' plans to install trampolines on a promenade have been approved.

Charles and Amy Barwick, who bought Southwold Pier in 2024, had submitted proposals to put the apparatus on the prom in North Parade, the same place where a carousel was installed last year.

During a meeting on Tuesday, members of East Suffolk Council gave their approval. Four platforms will be set up in the summer and will stay in place until September.

Planning officers had recommended approval, although concerns that the trampolines would be in a busy area were raised in the meeting by a Southwold town councillor.

Victoria Redington said: "We would be less concerned if there was a cordon or a barrier around the apparatus because it appears, from what we know so far, that the trampolines would be where people are circulating."

There were also concerns the design of a ticket kiosk would not be in keeping with the area, although planners did not think the character and appearance of the street scene would be damaged.

The trampolines will be in a cross shape, with bungee rigging 7m (23ft) high in the centre.

East Suffolk Council's planning committee unanimously approved the scheme.
