Pier owners hoping to install trampoline attraction
Martin Giles/BBCThe owners of a popular seaside pier are looking to install a new trampoline feature ahead of the busy summer season.
Charles and Amy Barwick, who bought Southwold Pier in 2024, want to put the new attraction on the promenade in North Parade, until September.
However, an objection from Southwold Town Council raises concerns the new attraction will reduce accessibility to an area of heavy footfall, particularly in the summer months.
The Barwicks' case, which also includes a ticket kiosk, will be heard by East Suffolk Council's planning committee on Tuesday.
Martin Giles/BBCThe trampoline would be in the same location as last year's carousel and would be removed during the off season, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
It would consist of four platforms arranged in a cross shape, with bungee rigging seven metres high in the centre.
The town council also said the design and size of the kiosk would not be in keeping with the area and surrounding amenities.
Despite the concerns, planners said the proposals were not considered to add a danger to road safety or harm the character and appearance of the street scene.
They also argued the pavilion and pier buildings were a "critical part" of this area of town, with a trampoline attraction being something a visitor would expect in a seaside location.
The plans are recommended for approval.
