Children are being asked to help name a name a tractor which has become the newest addition to a police force's fleet.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a competition to name the vehicle would be launched on Wednesday ahead of an appearance at the Devon County Show the following day.

The tractor, which has been loaned to the force for free by Chudleigh-based firm Masons Kings, has police livery and will be used as an "engagement tool" by Rural Affairs officers at events during the summer.

Entries can be submitted on the force's website before midnight on 7 June with the winner being announced during Woofstock Festival at Powderham Castle on 13 June.

'Meaningful conversations'

PC Clarke Orchard said officers would use the tractor at shows to raise aware of issues faced by rural communities and businesses.

"Members of the public will stop and ask us questions," Orchard said.

"That gives us the opportunity to talk about meaningful conversations around intelligent gathering, information, creating that awareness around some of the impacts that vulnerable communities such as the rural communities are subject to every week."
