Allied ordnance destroyed in controlled explosion
Hope Valley Safer Neighbourhood Policing TeamAn unexploded ordnance found by a member of the public in the Peak District has been destroyed by a bomb disposal unit.
Derbyshire Police said on Wednesday the unexploded ordnance was discovered by a member of the public at Slippery Stones in Derwent.
The force said a joint agency response, involving police officers, Severn Trent, Peak Park Rangers and the bomb disposal unit, was initiated and a safety cordon put in place.
It added the bomb disposal unit identified the device as an allied ordnance dating from between 1945 and 1960, which it said was safely destroyed in a controlled explosion at 19:13 BST.
