A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a teenager with a shotgun outside a school, Humberside Police said.

Armed officers were called to Derwent Road in Howden, East Yorkshire, at about 15:00 BST on Wednesday.

A 42-year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He has been bailed while inquiries continue.

Insp Rob Danby said that "several licensed firearms have since been recovered and seized, including a shotgun".

He added: "It is reported a group of teenagers were approached by a man outside a school before he allegedly threatened a teenager with what was believed to be a shotgun.

"I understand incidents of this nature will naturally cause fear and alarm within the community.

"However, I want to offer reassurance that this was an incident believed to be between people known to each other."
