Tributes to 'courageous' former mayor
Local Democracy Reporting ServiceA former mayor of Stafford has died at the age of 82, after giving decades of service to the town.
Angela Loughran served as a Labour member of the borough council for almost 30 years, chairing several committees after first being elected in 1997.
She taught for 20 years in Stafford, primarily at Rising Brook High School, and became a councillor after retiring from teaching.
Her family said they were "heartbroken to lose Angela, beloved wife, Mum and Grandma after a courageous battle with illness".
They added they "could not be more proud of all her achievements as a teacher and a councillor".
"It has been heart-warming to receive such warm messages of condolences and to see the lovely tributes being paid to her at this time."
Loughran, who died on Monday, had five children with husband John.
Alongside her council work she was a trustee and served as chair of charity Stafford and District Bereavement and Loss Support Service, as well as being a director of Central England Co-operative.
