The family of a 17-year-old who died in a crash in Fife on Sunday have paid tribute to him, saying he had a "bright future ahead of him".

Kerr Paterson, from Saline, was driving a blue Toyota Aygo that was in collision with a yellow Volkswagen Golf on the B914 near Kelty.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries are continuing.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened near the junction with the A823, at about 02:25.

In a statement, Kerr's family said they were devastated by his loss, adding that he was a "wonderful, hard-working young man with a bright future ahead of him".

"He meant the world to us, his parents, his two brothers and sister, and to his many family and friends, and we are struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss," they said.

They said the teenager had a "deep passion" for stock car racing.

"He truly loved it, and it brought him great happiness," they said. "He was proud of what he achieved in the sport, and those memories will stay with us forever."

They thanked the police officers who had supported them through an "incredibly difficult time".

"Their kindness, compassion, and professionalism have been a great comfort, and we are deeply grateful for everything they have done," the statement said.

The family also said they had been "overwhelmed by the messages of love, support, and condolences we have received, and we thank everyone for their kindness".

They added: "As a family, we respectfully ask that our privacy is respected as we grieve, support one another, and remember Kerr."

Sgt Lee Walkingshaw said: "We are continuing to appeal for information and asking anyone who can assist and who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

"If you were driving in the area at the time please check any dashcam footage you might have to see if something has been captured that could help with our investigation."
