Rail passengers in the West Midlands are being advised of some disruption after a railway operator cancelled services because of the hot weather.

Transport for Wales (TfW) said various services it operated between Wolverhampton and Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street have been cancelled in both directions.

Disruption was expected until the end of the day, a spokesperson added.

National Rail confirmed tickets could be used on alternative services from Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and West Midlands Railway at no extra cost, until 23:00 BST.

TfW said a reduced number of trains were available because depot teams have been working to ensure on board air conditioning was fully functional.

Services would start and terminate at Wolverhampton, and Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International would not be served, a spokesperson added.

A number of rail operators have cancelled services in recent weeks due to the heatwave, which National Rail said could cause overhead lines to expand and sag, line-side fires and rails to buckle.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Railway confirmed their services in the region were unaffected by the weather and were running as planned.
