Hot weather is expected to impact services run by East Midlands Railway

East Midlands Railway is cutting its timetables on Monday as it said heatwave conditions continued to impact the number of trains available.

Rail passengers are being asked to check their journeys before travelling due to "considered reductions to a small number of services", the operator said.

A reduced Intercity timetable will operate, with the "tactical removal" of services, while Robin Hood Line services between Nottingham and Worksop and from Nottingham to Leicester will be suspended from 12:00 BST and Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich services through Nottingham will operate between Norwich and Sheffield only.

Customers who need to travel are encouraged to do so before noon where possible.

Customers are also asked to carry plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and make use of shaded areas or station waiting rooms.

East Midlands Railway said its services were being affected by high temperatures which meant "additional checks and maintenance" were required, putting pressure on its fleet.

It said it was working with Network Rail to monitor conditions and return services to normal.

Philippa Cresswell, customer experience director, apologised for disruption and thanked customers for their patience, and said: "Our priority is to keep as much of the network running as possible while continuing to operate safely.

"By making temporary changes to a small number of services, we can better protect the wider timetable."
