A driver had to be cut free from her car and taken to hospital after crashing into a house.

Emergency services were called to a single vehicle collision in East Bergholt, Suffolk, just after 15:30 BST on Thursday.

A severely damaged white Volkswagen had left Gaston End and struck the corner of a two-storey property at Beehive Corner, coming to a stop on Fiddlers Lane.

Suffolk Police said the motorist was "extracted" before she was taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution, along with an adult female passenger.

The woman was cut from the car by firefighters from Ipswich Princes Street and Ipswich East fire stations.

Working closely with the East of England Ambulance Service, they stabilised the vehicle before using specialist cutting and rescue equipment to gain access.

In photos taken by the BBC, the car's airbags can be seen to have been deployed and the vehicle's roof has been cut off.

The road was closed to motorists for nearly three hours and was cleared by about 18:00.
