Man jailed for life after restaurant stabbing
Hertfordshire PoliceA man has been sentenced to life in prison for murder following a fatal stabbing outside a Turkish restaurant.
Dequarn Williams, 26, of Sancroft Close, Dollis Hill in north-west London, was found guilty of the murder of Jeyanthan Ramachanthran in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Ramachanthran, 32, was found with injuries outside the Vu Lounge on Bushey High Street after 23:30 GMT on 29 November - and died in hospital a short time later.
At a sentencing hearing at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, Williams was jailed for a minimum term of 19 years and five months.
In a victim impact statement, Ramachanthran's wife Thinuba said: "Jeyanthan was a bright, bubbly, and wonderful person.
"He possessed the purest heart, always selflessly putting everyone else before himself. He was funny, with a beautiful smile and a unique laugh - a laugh that made our house feel like a home."
She added: "He was not just my husband; he was a deeply loved son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend. He always helped everyone, and he left this world selflessly doing exactly that."
Det Insp Lee Martin, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said that violent behaviour of this nature had "no place in our community".
"While no prison term can ever undo the harm that has been caused or bring Jeyanthan back to his family, Williams will now spend a significant period behind bars as a consequence of his offending," he added.
