A serving police officer charged with child sex offences has now also been charged with misconduct in a public office.

Haydyn Brunsdon, a constable with Durham Constabulary, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court earlier where he did not enter any pleas.

The 31-year-old was charged with two attempts of sexual communication with a child and one count of misconduct in a public office, the force said.

He was released on bail to appear before Durham Crown Court later this month. Brunsdon remains suspended from duty while an investigation is carried out by the force's Professional Standards Department.
