Disqualified driver jailed after 130mph pursuit

A driver who led police on a 130mph pursuit through North Yorkshire has been jailed for 12 months.

Mohammed Muqadas Hussain, who was already disqualified from driving, evaded officers in the early hours of Wednesday morning after failing to stop for Durham Police.

The 22-year-old was seen driving the wrong way around roundabouts and reached speeds of 110mph in a 30mph zone during the pursuit.

Hussain, of Heaton Road, Huddersfield, was arrested after reaching a dead end on Blackthorn Avenue in Knaresborough and appeared at York Magistrates' Court the following day.

North Yorkshire Police said the pursuit started at about 00:45 BST, with officers taking over from Durham Police on the A1(M) at junction 50.

Hussain eventually abandoned his car and ran from police but was arrested shortly afterwards.

On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also banned from driving for a further 18 months and ordered to pay court costs.
