A pet chameleon has been saved from a house blaze started by a candle in a bedroom.

The animal, called Mr Peeps, was rescued from the fire in Trueway Drive in Shepshed, Leicestershire, on Wednesday.

A crew sent to the scene from Loughborough Fire Station quickly extinguished the blaze before rescuing the pet.

The firefighters encouraged people to never leave candles unattended and to keep them on stable surfaces away from flammable materials.
