Queensway Tunnel closed after off-road bike crash

A major tunnel under the Mersey has been closed after a serious crash involving an off-road bike, police have said.

Merseyside Police said it received a report of the vehicle crashing in the Queensway Tunnel while travelling from Birkenhead to Liverpool at about 13:05 BST.

A spokesperson said motorists should try to avoid the area while police dealt with the incident.

Transport operator Merseytravel said all river-crossing bus services were being re-routed via the Kingsway Tunnel until further notice, but were facing delays as a result.
