A £3.1m project to cut water leaks by replacing almost three miles of pipe is about to get under way in Thornton.

The project along Thornton Road, which is expected to take a year to complete, will see old pipes replaced with new plastic ones.

Yorkshire Water project manager Scott Gammon said it was a "significant upgrade" to their network.

Temporary traffic management will be put in place during the works, including along Thornton Road, Green Lane and Headley Lane.

It follows a 3.7 mile (6km) scheme, which has begun connecting Thornton Moor Reservoir to Haworth.

That will cost £4.5m and is expected to be completed in autumn 2026.

It is hoped connecting the Keighley area to the reservoir will reduce the risk of supply interruption during droughts.

In Bradford, schemes have already been completed in Laisterdyke, Oakworth and Lower Wyke. Works are currently under way in Bingley.
