Leicester Pride brings colour to city streets
BBCThe annual Leicester Pride celebration returned to the city on Saturday.
The event, which is free to attend, saw people getting together outside The Curve Theatre at 12:00 BST for a parade around the city on a 2.8km (1.7 mile) route.
The charity behind the occasion said live singers, dance acts, and cabaret from across the country would take to the main stage at Abbey Park from 13:00 BST to 21:00.
Leicester Pride said more than 10,000 people attend the celebration every year.
The parade took participants through Humberstone Gate, Gallowtree Gate, Jubilee Square, High Street, and Belgrave Gate.
Tyler Slater, 24, from Leicester, said: "It's a place where you can express yourself, it's a safe space.
"Some people feel like they can't identify as what they want to identify as, whereas here everyone can be free, do what they want, have fun.
"If you can be yourself, your mental health will skyrocket and especially if you surround yourself with the right people."
Noah Iwasiw, 18, said: "People can show themselves off and be who they want to be.
"The first time I came, I wasn't quite sure, but the more I came the more I became myself."
