Tony Warner, 73, died after being involved in a serious crash on the A14, police said

A driver who died following a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A14 has been named by the police.

Tony Warner, 67, from Ilketshall St Lawrence, Suffolk, was driving a silver Ford S-Max on the road's westbound carriageway near Nacton when the two vehicles crashed at about 09:00 BST on Monday, Suffolk Police said.

A 50-year-old man from Newmarket was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has since been released on bail until 13 July.

"Mr Warner's family have asked us to pass on their thanks and gratitude to all the emergency services personnel who attended the incident and also the members of the public who assisted at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

The crash resulted in the A14's eastbound carriageway being shut between the off-slip and the on-slip at junction 57 for Ransomes Europark until about 19:00.

The westbound carriageway was also closed between junction 58 at Seven Hills and junction 56 at Wherstead until 02:00 BST on Tuesday.

Two passengers who were travelling in the car with Warner were taken to hospital for treatment but did not sustain any serious injuries.

The police has asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact the police.
