A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing.

Dean Fishwick, 51, died in hospital after being found injured at a property on Thames Road in Peterlee shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

Kenneth Fishwick, 53 and also from Peterlee, has been charged with murder and remanded into custody, Durham Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said a 73-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder had been bailed, while a 77-year-old man previously arrested for the same offence had been released under investigation.

Kenneth Fishwick was due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Detetcives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
