Girl dies after crash involving van

A girl has died following a crash involving a van.

Durham Police said a Fiat 500 carrying the girl and a Ford Transit van collided on Shincliffe Lane, near Durham, at about 17:30 BST on Thursday.

It said the girl, whose age it did not provide, was declared dead at the scene despite efforts to save her life.

A second passenger in the Fiat was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment, the force said, adding that both vehicles' drivers sustained minor injuries. It said it was appealing for witnesses.
