Further 210 homes planned next to garden village

Plans have been lodged for 210 new homes to be built on agricultural land next to a huge new village.

Banks Property Ltd has applied to Durham County Council for permission to build the development next to Seaham Garden Village - a planned 1,500-home estate with shops, green space and a school.

Planning documents show the Banks Property project would create a new access road from the A182 roundabout to the 14 hectare (34.6 acre) plot.

About 15% of the homes provided would fall under the "affordable" criteria, with about 10% being level-access bungalows.

While firm plans for the full development are yet to be confirmed, the company indicated it intended to build 105 three-bedroom homes and 21 two-bed homes, with the rest having either four or five bedrooms.

In planning documents, Banks Property said: "The South Seaham site can accommodate up to 210 dwellings of mixed size, type and tenure.

The company said: "The development will connect to the Garden Village... enabling shared use of social, educational, and recreational amenities."
