Council calls for new festival ideas for patch
SuppliedA council is calling for ideas for a new festival to be held on its patch.
Durham County Council is on the lookout for someone who can organise an event that will become "a new centre piece in the culture and events calendar" of the area.
Karen Allison, cabinet member for leisure at the Reform-led council, said the authority wanted the event to be "bold" and "ambitious".
She said: "We are particularly interested in ideas that bring together culture, creativity, technology, innovation, and community participation in ways that are distinctive to County Durham and cannot be replicated elsewhere."
The authority said it wanted to build on the popularity of past events such as Lumiere, Durham Brass Festival, Durham Book Festival and Bishop Auckland and Seaham Food Festivals.
The council said the new event would have to bring "lasting cultural, social, and economic value" to residents and visitors, with local people at the heart of them.
It added possible themes may range from innovation and engineering to health and wellbeing, space and artificial intelligence, while celebrating "County Durham's rich industrial, scientific and cultural heritage".
