Man charged after boy, 13, stabbed on seafront

A man has been charged after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed in East Sussex on Sunday.

The boy was attacked shortly after 17:00 BST at Grand Parade in Eastbourne, near the junctions of Elms Avenue and Cavendish Place.

He was airlifted to hospital after sustaining an injury consistent with a stabbing, police said, but is now recovering at home.

Kyle Saupe, one of five people arrested, has now been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Saupe, 20, of Cavendish Place, Eastbourne, will appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The other four people, two boys aged 16, one aged 17, and a woman, 22, have been bailed with conditions while inquiries continue, Sussex Police added.

They had been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Det Insp Rob Tillyer said: "There will be an increased police presence in the area while our inquiries continue.

"Please speak to our officers if you have any concerns."
