Thousands of people are heading to the polls across Suffolk as two local elections take place.

Voters will decide on elections for Suffolk County Council - which has 70 contested seats - as well as one third of Ipswich Borough Council.

Polling booths open from 07:00 BST and will remain so until 22:00.

Voters will need to bring identification to take part in the election before the results across the county are announced on Friday.

The county council has 70 contested seats while Ipswich will have 16 seats out of its 48 contested as it elects in thirds.

Acceptable identification includes photo card driving licence, passport and blue badge. A list of polling stations and candidates can be found on your local council website.

The counts on Friday are due to start at 10:00 and full results are expected to be in by 16:00.

Both councils will only be operational for two years as they are being replaced by three unitary authorities in Suffolk.
