Weekend of free interactive events across Lancashire
LCCA weekend of creativity is taking place across libraries in Lancashire, as well as Lancaster Castle and Judges' Lodgings, as part of the annual 'Fun Palaces' initiative.
The scheme started in 2014, in honour of theatre director Joan Littlewood, who developed the original Fun Palace concept, which sought to make arts and sciences accessible to everyone via community-led activities
To celebrate her vision, a weekend of family-friendly activities will take place from 2 4 October, with participating venues hosting a range of hands-on sessions including slime-making, family yoga, sensory play and Lego activities.
The county council said more than 5,000 people had attended free events last year.
LCCLittlewood, who died in 2002, was credited with transforming British theatre with plays like Oh! What A Lovely War at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in London.
This year's Fun Palaces programme is founded on the theme 'Everyone an Artist, Everyone a Scientist', encouraging people of all ages to explore creativity, curiosity and discovery in fun and engaging ways.
Visitors to Lancaster Castle will also be treated to a historical re-enactment, delivered by Heritage Learning.
There is no requirement to book and all activities are free.
Ella Worthington, cabinet member for civic pride at Lancashire County Council, said: "I'm proud that communities across Lancashire continue to support events like these.
"I encourage everyone to come along, get involved, and discover the fantastic opportunities available on their doorstep."
