Three firefighters have been taken to hospital following a collision between a fire engine and three other vehicles.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said the crash took place when the crew was responding to an incident at about 11:00 BST on Tuesday.

The incident happened on the northbound section of the A43, by Barford Bridge, between Kettering and Corby. It involved a lorry, a car and a van.

The firefighters received "precautionary checks" at Kettering General Hospital and have now returned home. Police are investigating, the service confirmed.

A fire service spokeswoman said following the crash, another crew was sent to deal with the incident after it had been reported that a car was on fire.

But when firefighters arrived at the scene, "there was nothing to be found", the spokeswoman added.
