Stranded walkers rescued from series of waterfalls

A pair of Peak District walkers were rescued after taking a wrong turn and ending up trapped in a series of waterfalls.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team was called to Crowden Clough near Kinder Scout at 16:30 BST on Wednesday, where two people had headed away from their planned route on to steep ground, which led to Crowden Brook.

Unable to scramble back up and with recent rainfall leading to a lot of water running through the brook, one of the walkers became soaked, so the pair called for help.

A fast response party was sent to the scene, where members found two men had already helped the pair from the water.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: "They managed to help them out on to better ground and then up on to the path.

"Not only had they managed to rescue them, but the casualty who was soaked through had been given some of their clothing to help get him dry.

"They were fitted with emergency blizzard jackets and walked back to their vehicles."

While a second rescue team was on its way to the waterfalls, two other walkers stopped them to ask for directions to Edale railway station.

As the pair were without a torch, and with darkness setting in, they were led back to the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team base instead.
