A lost walker who got stuck in thick undergrowth near the edge of a cliff has been rescued by coastguards.

Lyme Regis and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to the steep undercliff area near the Lyme Regis Golf Course East of The Spittles on Tuesday afternoon.

The coastguard said the walker had called for help after finding themselves off the main path stuck in a "dangerous position" in the "treacherous terrain".

A rope rescue technician was lowered from the cliff edge to reach the walker and bring them up to safety with no injuries.

The coastguard team praised the walker for staying where they were after realising their were lost and "in a dangerous position.... rather than trying to push through the treacherous terrain".

The rescue team added their use of the what3words app was also extremely helpful giving a "pinpoint location" to the walker who was invisible from the path.

The coastguard urged those facing similar circumstances to follow the walker's example and "stop, stay safe, and call for help".
