Replacement sculpture unveiled on park trail

A sculpture in gardens overlooking Dorset's Jurassic Coast has been replaced after being vandalised.

The steel wire artwork of the seated figure, entitled Reader, was created to sit on a park bench by artist Vik Westaway as part of a trail in Langmoor Gardens, Lyme Regis.

A new version was commissioned by the town council after the original was "repeatedly vandalised".

After it was unveiled in the gardens which overlook the town, Westaway said the new sculpture "feels part of the place now".

"I know there are quite a lot of people who would come and sit with it every single day and have a chat to it," she added.

The council said the new version was "stronger and more robust to withstand the elements".

The Langmoor and Lister Gardens' sculpture trail was created in 2015 to provide a showcase for contemporary works by local artists, with views over Lyme Regis and further along the Jurassic Coast towards Golden Cap and Charmouth.
