Det Supt Colin Garman says an "increased police presence" will remain in the area for several days

A man has been charged with the murder of an 84-year-old woman at her West Sussex home.

Emergency services attended an address at Langley Grove in Aldwick at about 14:00 BST on Sunday after concerns were raised for the welfare of Beryl Pyke.

She was found dead inside with serious injuries and Michael Pyke, 78, was arrested at the scene, Sussex Police said.

He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Det Supt Colin Garman called it "a significant and tragic incident" and urged anyone with information which could assist the force's investigation to get in touch.

"Officers are continuing to carry out a number of inquiries at the address and an increased police presence will remain visible in the area at this time," he added.
