Two bikers have been badly hurt following separate crashes in the south of Scotland within a few minutes of one another.

The first accident - involving a blue and white BMW R1250 RS motorbike - happened at about 16:25 on Wednesday on the A708 between Moffat and the B709 near Muchra in the Borders.

The 57-year-old rider was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

About five minutes later emergency services were called to an accident involving a car and a motorbike on the A68 between St Boswells and Newtown St Boswells. The male biker was airlifted to the same hospital.

Inquiries are continuing and anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
