Police were called to Abram Close, Fallowfield twice over the weekend due to several suspicious items

A man has been arrested after the bomb squad was called to a housing estate.

Homes in Edward Sutcliffe Close in Fallowfield, Manchester, were evacuated on 6 and 7 June after suspicious items were found outside two addresses in Abram Close.

After a house was searched, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were called and homes were evacuated a second time before a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of offences under Section 4 of the Explosives Act.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the investigation was continuing.

'Isolated incidents'

GMP believe the incidents to be "isolated", nor do they think there is a "wider threat" to the community.

The force added there will be greater police activity at the address while enquiries continue, along with an enhanced neighbourhood patrol within the area.
