The main route through Cornwall has been closed in both directions after a multi-vehicle crash left five people injured, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash happened on the A30 at Connor Downs, near Hayle, and involved five cars. Five people were hurt, with four confirmed to have serious injuries.

Emergency services at the scene have included police, fire crews, ambulance teams and the air ambulance.

The A30 is shut between Hayle and Camborne and is expected to remain closed for some time while a full investigation is carried out, said officers. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

Police have thanked members of the public for their patience as work continues at the scene.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
