Charging e-scooter sparked fire in flat

Firefighters spent more than three hours tackling the fire in Reading on Tuesday

A fire in a flat that took five crews more than three hours to extinguish started when an e-scooter ignited while being charged.

Two people were assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation after the blaze at Patriot Place in Reading at about 14:30 BST on Tuesday.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said charging e-bikes and e-scooters indoors should be avoided, particularly in communal areas.

Crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham, Slough, Whitley Wood and Windsor attended the incident, with firefighters also returning later that evening to check for hotspots.
