Smoke 'billows' out of flat during fire

A resident said he saw flames "billowing" out of flats that took five fire crews to get under control.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) said the fire to the two-storey building in Patriot Place, Reading, was dealt with by crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham, Slough, Whitley Wood and Windsor from about 14:30 BST.

Crews remained at the flats into Tuesday evening and residents have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

Neighbour, Paul Niewiadowski, said he heard shouting before he saw "flames billowing out of the [building's] door" before he left his property and alerted a friend.
