Crews tackle large crop fire near village

Firefighters have tackled a large fire that broke out in a combine harvester before spreading to two fields.

Crews from across Hampshire responded to the fire, off Meon Road, near Titchfield, after receiving multiple emergency calls shortly before 17:00 BST.

Forty firefighters dealt with the blaze, which affected approximately 30 hectares (74 acres) of standing crop.

They used multiple hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, while farm machinery was used to create fire breaks and help stop further spreading.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service thanked those who avoided the area while they dealt with the incident.

Engines from Fareham, Gosport and Portchester remained at the scene on Monday evening.

They were supported by specialist vehicles and crews from Eastleigh, Havant, Lyndhurst, Hardley, Beaulieu and Andover, as well as the incident command unit from service's headquarters.
