Police are trying to trace the driver of a Mercedes SUV after debris was found following a fatal motorway crash involving a motorcyclist.

The crash on the M27 eastbound near Fareham between junctions 11 and 12 involving a black and white Triumph motorcycle happened on Friday shortly before 06:40 BST.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, died at the scene.

Police said the debris was believed to have come from a Mercedes GLA and urged anyone who had been driving a similar vehicle with front-end damage on the M27 about the time of the collision to come forward.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight police said officers also wanted to speak to witnesses and any drivers with dash cam footage.

The force said it was particularly keen for those in white coaches seen travelling on both sides of the carriageway at the time to get in touch.

It added that detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit were continuing to establish exactly what happened.
